xc90 a/c problem

Post by greyvolvo »

My 2007 xc90 started blowing warm air. I had the a/c charged and while charging it the mechanic said the low pressure was low and the high pressure was reading too high in the 400 range. The cold air didnt last long. Another mechanic checked the lines for leaks and I ended up replacing the compressor with a used one. Used compressor didn't work either. Took it to a Volvo dealership who replaced the switch because they couldn't get a reading. They decieded to put in a new compressor and found dark fluid in the line that was clogging up the expansion valves. The new compressor didn't last long and they had to put another new compressor in. After having it for several weeks by trying to blow out the fluid in the line and replacing the expansion valves two different times they said the vehicle stays cool while running for two hours and gave it back to us. when we got it back the air smelled but cooled for two weeks until it stopped blowing cold air again. We are back at the problem again and have spent $3500. Dealership is puzzeled and have no idea where the dark fluid is coming from.

They did not replace condenser? Oil starvation from metal plugged condenser will kill compressors. The condenser is the next item in the circuit after refrigerant is discharged from compressor. No filter to stop any debris. The condenser is parallel flow and can't be flushed with flush liquid blown through with compressed air like serial flow condensers can.

I haven't seen the oil they are getting out of system but if it black/dark gray then that is aluminum wear particles from lack of lubrication.
