96 960 heater core replacement instructions

i have a parts car i want to take the heater core out and put it in my everyday 960. Are there
detailed instructions? I understand it's a beach!

It's worth having heat and saving a grand...

Wait!!!

Why do you want to put a used part in there? There is a reason it costs over $1000 for the labor. You are literally taking the dash out. It's not something you are going to want to do again any time soon. And you will be breaking a lot of plastic. You will be lucky to get it back together without creating a noisy dash, or braking something else that you can't get new parts for anymore. You can get an aftermarket heater core for $100 http://www.swedishautoparts.com/960/vol ... parts.html Seems worth it to me!

We literally posted two sets of instructions on your other post earlier this week.

the heater core on the parts car was replaced - two years ago - and only anti-freeze was used in the radiator - so the heater core should be good. Even if it isn't I can then get an aftermarket. I literally did not see any instructions being offered - just reasons not to try it. I've replaced other heater cores. If you sent sets of instructions thank you. I'm not that good with this blogging stuff. I do agree for $100, if the aftermarket core is good - it's worth buying... I wouldn't want to do it again. could you send the instructions to [email protected]? Thank you.

I don't think there are any gaskets. Should be hose through gromets in the firewall then connectors to the core.... But then I didn't do this job on my car, so I havn't even seen the core. I know others are doing this on their own. Care to weigh in Ya'll?

thanks. Also I don;t have anything coming through on the engine compartment side. The car's heater core was bypassed so I'm not sure if I'm missing something in between or if it's just the general heater hoses?

I did this replacement recently & bought a new, with lifetime warranty, replacement off EBay for $39 and it has been great & no bad smell like others complain of with theirs. Here is a link just get the right one for your car....

But my car had the bypass to so I ordered the Volvo coupler and that was less than $40 but I wish I had tried just new quick connectors and O rings first because that probably was all I needed.

thanks. did you learn any tricks or pitfalls? I watched the video I didn't see them remove the dashboard - they were able to slide it out on the passenger side. Is that what you did? Also does the heater core flanges/hoses extend through the firewall? Right now I don't see anything on the engine compartment side because it's bypassed (not even sure if there is a heater core inside)

how is the coupler connected?

Im afraid user pikngrn has you on a bit of a wild goosechase. He replaced the heater core in his 855 wagon which couldn't be any more different a vehicle than a 960. The procedure does involve removing the dash on the 960.

My own 960 wagon has been waiting for a heater core for a year now because I simply don't want to have the car apart for so long. You can't access it from the engine side.
