Faulty codes again

Post by Des »

Hi everybody :? . Troubles on the way again. Today I had some spare time, then I decide to reset my lambda light and my check engine light. I got faulty codes 1-3-5, and 4-1-4. I looked for codes and I found : 1-3-5- no signal from engine coolant temperature sensor , and 4-1-4 -driver's side interior temp. sensor inlet fan shorted to earth. Does anybody know what is next step (don't tell me go to garage), because, every time when I hit mechanic garage a few hundred $ fly away(without solving problems) :x .How I can solve this. Thanks to everybody, Des :(

In your thermostat housing is a temperature sensor. I'd say that might be shot. Above your passenger and driver doors, there is a grab handle. Right above that is a sensor for the inside temperature. There's a little fan in there that pulls the air through so the sensor can read temp. in the cabin. I'd say that the one on the driver's side may be seized up and not working. Hope this gets you started. By the way, not sure which year you have but if it's an 850 the above is correct. If it's a S70, the coolant temp sensor location is correct but the cabin sensor is in the dash to the left of the radio. Either year, you should download the free 850 service manual in the sticky section at the top of this part of the forum. Good luck!

I have 94 850 SW turbo. I know where is sensor located, but how I can pull it out. I tried once. I had to remove grab handle and that's all. But how I can pryout that sensor, is there any trick or so.I tried to clean't by blowing in some air by compressor, but still didn't show any changes.Thank you for fast reply, Des :?

disconnect the sensor wire and it screws out with an open ended wrench. You'll have to drain some of the coolant as it will spill out of there when you open up the thermostat housing when you get it out.

Oops...wong sensor. Take the B-pillar loose. There's a panel at the top of it...pulls off with a slotted screw driver. then inside you'll find a red or orange tab that you twist and pull out (dont lose it in the hole). This will free the spings and allow you to take the trim above the door all the way to the dash loose (it just snaps out). Next, you can pull up the head liner to the area and you'll see the fan and sensor behind the headliner and will be able to get to it. I'm assuming you'll probably have to replace the sensor/fan...or maybe not....code 414 is the fan sticking, not shorted to ground. I just looked it up. Maybe you can take it out and see if there's lent or something stuck to the fan shaft and clean it, lube it and see if it turns on after that. Good luck.
