RPM sensor/Crankshaft position sensor and what is this?

Post by JosephVelder »

So my 2001 V70 2.4L Turbo started having stalling episodes and throwing up gang signs so I hooked up my code reader and the three codes (P0335, P1633, P0102) all pointed towards the crankshaft position sensor, but when I took it off it had a second sensor on the same clip that went to the transmission. Autozone and the rest of the normal car part places don't seem to carry it and I'm worried how much this will cost from the dealership.

1) Has anyone dealt with this before?
2) Am I going to have to pawn my oldest child to pay for this thing?
3) Is there a way to test it or clean it?
4) From what I've read it's just a magnet so would cleaning help at all?
5) Do they sell them separate where I can just cut the old one off and solder the new one the old wire?

Those are both transmission speed sensors. The CKP sensor is in the gap between trans and engine block at the top. The engines slants back a few degrees so it isn't at 12 o'clock, closer to 1 o'clock.
It is retained in its bracket tlike the ones you removed, i.e., with one bolt.

Installed the crankshaft position sensor and it was still stalling...for the heck of it I unplugged the MAF and voila! Stupid thing runs like a top. So I ordered a new one for *gulp* $137.00 American dollars...
Meanwhile this thing is running like Seabiscuit on crank!
I'm having second thoughts about installing the new MAF , does it really need it?

I would highly recommend going with an OEM MAF. I assume it's BOSCH. The aftermarket ones tend to be pure crap.
