Considering Synthetic oil?

Post by gondwana »

Hello, I have a 98 v70 t5 the car has 190,000 mile's. I don't have any service records from previous owner. I changed oil 3 times before with convention 10w 30. Is is it a good/bad idea to switch to synthetic oil? I am not aware off any major oil leaks, excecpt minor around the turbo. I have replaced oil cap seal and Full PCV kit. :?:

Thanks

Do it. If the car is burning oil between changes, more than 1 full quart, go with high mileage. If not, use regular synthetic.

I have a 2001 V70 With 210,000 miles & run synthetic with no mores issues than with conventional oil. Synthetic is just so much better all the way around. I run it in everything I own even my Mowers big & small

Go with a high-mileage synthetic. They contain seal conditioners that will help keep your seals from leaking, as well as all the additives and benefits of the regular synthetic oils.

Question, If one's car is leaking about two quart between oil changes (I do mine every 10000 pluss or six months) would adding a motor treatment be a good idea or just snake oil? For I see many new motor treatments now then before when we just had STP or Bars. I am using High milage Moble one 10 W 40 synthetic (not the synthetic blend stuff) and a Hasting filter. Also i am wondering if I am wasting funds using synthetic oil. I am a transplant from the east California desert area to Washington DC. Been here sence 1990 and I was told that regular oil was bad for cold start up in this area. So I have been using full synthetic or a blend in all of my past cars. From reading what others are saying I am thinking this is just another snake oil story.

Synth is better for cold start, circulates quicker and doesn't congeal at very low temps. It is better for the engine and the PVC system. I don't think you're wasting your money at all.

Is it leaking the oil or using/burning it? I burn about 1 quart of oil every 2,500 miles (mine is turbo). If it's leaking, you need to get the leak fixed. If it's burning it, that is no problem at all.
