Headlamp lense

Post by sailingmike »

We just purchased a 1991, 240 for our son. The headlamp lenses are cloudy with age. Can we replace the lense only or must we replace the entire headlamp assembly. Also, are there halagon bulbs available for this car and if we use them, will the generated heat more quickly cloud the plastic lense?
Thanks

You certainly can replace just the lens.

As for the halogen bulb, I can only speak from experience of UK models which used the H4 halogen bulb. However, they had glass lenses.

Perhaps someone with US experience can advise on this, or possibly contact the above company for advise.

I have seen these lenses before, most people i talk to think you cannot remove the lense. Obviously if FCP Graton sells them they are replaceable.

Has anyone tried it...could you comment on your technique on replacing them on the 240? (does this also apply to the 740 series?)

It is no problem to change the lenses you have in the 740. I have just experience from the big square one we have in Europe. Remove the whole headlamp and then it is just to loose something like 10 clips holding the lense to the frame. My lenses where gray and cloudy, so I removed them and cleaned the inside with soap and water. Look's like new again. Maximum one hour job per headlamp. It's an easy job.
