The timing belt change interval would also be 7 yrs/105k whicheve comes first so I'd make sure that the timing belt has been changed as well.

As long as you budget for the typical stuff you'll have to replace in the first year due to the previous owner's deferred maintenance it looks like a good deal from here.
Timing belt, xemodex, pan job, suspension parts, abs module, and PCV.
I did all of the above (except xemodex - still on my original white sticker at 101k miles though the ets light is on half the time) within 8 months when I got my 2000 s70 at 97k miles. I paid 2400 even though it has ratty front seats and I really wanted a wagon - so that deal looks nice to me. I'm still under 3k invested for a relatively classy and comfy car so it's a win to me. Although that pan job nearly gave me an aneurysm.

Nope never did get another quarter panel. Still trying to get my 850 back to snuff, I put in a rear main seal and swapped the tranny last week and while the transmission works fine I really screwed up the RMS install it seems, so I have to do it again.daveojr77 wrote:
Indeed, I want another one but I dont want a headache in the same token. Im probally going to take it to Lonnies on Hillsborough RD. He checked my current V70 for free when I had a check engine light on.
Glad to see a fellow Volvo lover in the area on this forum. Maybe I could meet with you and get some advice on my current 99 V70. I dont mind the drive. My brother stays close to Capital blvd.
Did you ever get another q panel for your 850?
I don't know much about V70's but I think they are pretty similar to 850's in anything 2000 and older.

I'd be cautious and take your time. See if you can take the car to a mechanic for an inspection. When you get the list of items needing repair and a rough estimate you can use that info to offer a low price or perhaps walk away from trouble. Good luck!

Hillsborough road in Durham? I'm not far from there and I have a code reader you can use, and check over the car for you. My brother taught me all the things to look for in a used Volvo, and I acquired his as my daily driver. I'd be glad to help you out anytime if you're in the Durham area, but otherwise my travels are limited. minimum wagedaveojr77 wrote:Indeed, I want another one but I dont want a headache in the same token. I'd go with you to do it but I'm over on the NE side of Raleigh. I would probably pay that amount *IF* the interior and exterior were in good to great condition. Mechanical stuff you can do, body work gets really expensive fast. I have no problem putting money into an old Volvo but IMO it needs to look good before I drop money into it. Mine looked good until I dropped a cabinet on the quarter panel. Put a big dent in it.
I find Volvos tend to be very overpriced in our area, so that is at least priced somewhat "normal".

Oh, and for the love of god do not by any means take your car to Becker Automotive off of Hillsborough. They've screwed up my car SEVERAL times.

Lol....Ive never really taken any of my car to a shop for repairs. My father was gracious enough to drag me out of my warm bed as a child to show me how to do the basic repairs yourself and how to maintain a car.
Maybe we can meet up if this gets serious and me and the owner reach a price we can agree on.
Min wage? Are you in school? If not, come on down to the Durham Veterans Hospital and Ill help you find a job there. The food svc workers make at least $10-12/hr.
