2002 XC70 radio display is dark

2002 XC70 radio works fine, but recently the display has gone dark. I cannot tell which mode I am in (radio, fm, am, cd) or tell which channel I am tuned to. The display is just dark. I was quoted $1,300 to replace the radio. Is there anything else that might work? OEM or after-market? Thanks.
