After getting the "no compression" diagnosis from my mechanic he offered to replace my 2.4L engine with a used one for $2500. I was shocked because the car ran fine when I moved it from the garage onto the street the night before. How could a "no start" problem be this catastrophic?
I did what I often do then, I came to Matt and searched "no compression". All I can say now is that "lawnmower syndrome" is alive and well in my S70. I called my mechanic and told him to pour a tablespoon of oil in each banger, change the oil and plugs and then try to fire her up. Sure as I am writing this thank-you, all 5 cylindars where purring away as only 358K kilomerters could sing.
You guys are awsome! BTW, after welding my driver door hinge twice I used the forum too and bolted it this time....that was over a year ago and it's still holding. Thanks guys....now I can afford next simesters tuition

Is it really necessary to change the oil and plugs?

Not really, if you disconnect injectors, put some oil in the cylinders (cold start=very rich mixture=washes oil away wich is needed for compression) and crank a bit, reconnect injectors and start the car!
When you dont disconnect injectors, fuel leaks down into crankcase, due to lack of compression/worn rings. I think that is why you change the oil, it becomes contaminated to some degree.
Disconnecting injectors is cheaper and faster than changing oil.
I dont know about the spark plugs though?

The CAA (same as AAA) came to tow the car to the garage but before he hooked it up, he tried cranking it over quite a few times before he realized it was not going to start. Not knowing what the problem was, he didn't disconnect the injectors so I thought it would be safe to change the oil.
The plugs were at half life so I figured I would have them changed while it was in.
