Purchasing software after replacing part

Hello,

I was unlucky to have steering wheel lock problem, and have got the part myself from the US. (dealer here in Auckland wanted 6 times more money for the part). I also have got Vida Dice. I am going to replace the part myself or get a local mechanic to do it (again, dealer here wants to charge 1400$ for this job which I think way too much). But I heard that I need to update the software after that. I wonder how can I get an account to purchase the software from Volvo?

You need a legitimate version of Vida and an account from Volvo, though you can still use your copied Dice tool.

The software costs around $1,000 plus software download plus daily or greater time related license costs. You can find out CEM download part number through your copied Vida. Then plug the number into one of our site sponsor's websites to give approximate price. jimmy57 can get the website address for licensed versions of s/w. Are you beginning to feel sorry you asked?

No independent garage around you has VIDA?

Good Independent garages with Autologic should also be able to reload the SCL.

If you replace the part and tow it to dealer what would they charge for software loading?

I have got account at volvotechinfo.com but I am afraid that the transaction may not go through, because of the credit card billing address ckeck system. I found another website - https://tis.volvocars.biz but that may also require registered VA (so both designed to work within Europe/USA I reckon).

No independent garage with Vida here, unfortunately - dealer monopoly.

That is my plan B - to tow the car back to dealer to load the software, but they seem very reluctant to do it without them doing the job. Although if I push hard, I presume they may do it and charge me for a few hours at 120$+GST, plus the software module cost. I will confirm tomorrow with them.

I just wanted to research the ways of doing it myself first. I would not bother at the first place if the quoted price here was not 2300$ for this fault. After I called Moscow Volvo authorized garage and was quoted 5 times less the price I think that I am getting overcharged here in NZ.

I am going to find out the required CEM download part number - what are other websites I can purchase it from ??

Jimmy57 asked you if auto electricians in your area that have Autologic brand scanner. Also Vedis II made by Autoland Scientech scanner may do the same thing; no need for dealer
