S70 2.4t '00 CVVT pulley sideway movement -> misfires?

Post by boogieman »

Hi,

I was wondering if a slight sideways slack in the exhaust cam pulley (CVVT is on the exhaust side on this model) can cause misfires on open loop mode? This is what local dealer says, but it sounds a bit strange to me.

Here's some footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HupP0EpSIOA

As long as ECM stays at closed loop (as seen from the ScanGauge2), engine runs smoothly but as soon as it goes to open loop - when I press gas pedal enough - engine misfires and revs go up and down. There's a slight slack in the exhaust cam pulley if I gently pry it with a screwdriver.

Yesterday car was fine for a 30 km drive after battery was disconnected for several hours. Then the symptoms came back.

Some repair history:
-New ETM (from FRF Volvo UK)
-Programmed at local dealer so that the new ETM was connected to the car, new program was installed and then I drove home with new software and old ETM and installed the new ETM myself. Car behaved badly with the old ETM and new software combination, but dealer said it would do that.
-New spark plugs (Volvo parts)
-CVVT solenoid cleaned (wasn't even dirty, really)

Due to the fact that problems come only at open loop, I was suspecting that there could be some software error.

I'm really lost here. Dealer can't tell anything either - they just want to change parts at random and get my money, or so it seems. I need this car for my family and I really can't afford expensive try-and-fails. Well, hope you can help me to sort this out!

I assume you sorted this out. I have the same problem. Did you fix it?
