Hello and who is in Sydney^_^

Post by gundamvolvo »

Hi

I am new to the forum and I live in Sydney

I have 2005 S60 model and currently looking for more info regarding maintenance tips and advise.

i found the forum while checking for engine breather as I have been informed to clean this and the local volvo official service quote me for AUD$1,300 and to be honest I do not feel any problem while driving it.

I will get more advise for this in the maintenance section.

Looking forward to chat with you all.

Anyone else in Sydney, please say hi :D

Cheers,

Ren

Hi Ren,

I'm in Newcastle.
I've heard good things about AutoHaus North Shore in Hornsby, they're at 9987 4747.
Yes, the dealers will eat you alive.....

Cheers, Erik

Hi Ren I'm Mike here in Melbourne.
The PCV as it's known here in Volvo circles usually rears it's head for the first time at between 120,000 and 160,000 kms depending on the type of driving you do, the quality of oil used (full synth, part synth or mineral) and the frequency of oil changes. Symptoms are a discharge of pressure or visible vapour from the dipstick tube when the engine is warm.

Ignoring the symptom can lead to higher oil consumption and premature leaking of seals, the most costly to repair being the rear main b/w engine & transmission.

Shop around for a independant repairer and insist on genuine parts for the job. The inlet manifold needs to come off so a new inlet gadket is required. While they are there it's best to replace any vacuum hoses that are brittle or cracking. Four to five hours of labour and around $300 in parts including new oil/filter should do it. The site sponsors on the banner above can help with parts but one which is easy to navigate is IPD Volvo and they have reasonable freight charges to Australia.

Keep us posted how you went with the local independant repairer if you go that way.

hi,
as my username implies, i am in Bundaberg. not too far north of Sydney !
i maintain 3 volvos, xc90, v70, and 940
for all i get parts from IPD, and advice and info from MVS.
for stuff thats too tricky or me, i still do the same with the parts and info, but then take the lot to my local trusted mechanic.( hes not a dealer mechanic )
I buy oils etc locally, autobarn /repco/ supercheap
also, i try to keep maintenance up to date, and replace things progressively, before they become time critical.
im sure this is cheaper than waiting for a breakdown, and paying top dollar for urgent repairs.

many years ago, i had a cam belt break in peak hour traffic, about 100km from home. that proved to be a memorable, and time consuming experience ! ( not too costly to fix, as it was a 245 )

anyway, thanks to your post, i realize our v70 has a similar setup, and i will need to do the pcv/breather within the next year or so.
( theres a similar thing on the 940 types, but its easy to access. )
all the best with yours,
Richard
