Battery Upgrade for 09 C70? AGM?

Battery Upgrade for 09 C70? AGM?

I maybe due for a battery replacement at my 09 Volvo C70. Volvo OEM battery is similar to one at my dad's car like almost 40 years ago :-). My BMW motorcycle came with a Gell battery and I later upgraded to an AGM Oddysey battery. One reason why I want to upgrade the battery to AGM is that I drive my C70 only once or twice a week. It seems that AGM batteries hold charge better for longer time. Which battery would you pick?

I like a Deka "group 49" size. They are now sold at O'riellys for $150. They are AGM and a direct fit. Most cars come with the 'group 48 battery and can fit the 49. I also drive small miles so I need one with great reserve. Make sure your battery hold down can handle the group 49 size ( extra bolt hole or clip slot aprox 1.5 inches wider (longer) and that you cable can reach.)

The P1 's have battery sitting there in a hot location and I would avoid any battery that can't have water added. AGM resist evaporative loss but I don't think they will guarantee it to not happen.

Thank you for the answers. I think I posted my question on the older C70 group. Groups 48 and 49 are for C70's prior to 2006 model. Newer C70's use Groups 91 (small) and 94R (big). My C70(2009) is currently using Group 91 but there is space to fit the bigger 94R size battery. And Deka makes 94R size battery in AGM type as well. BTW, Odyssey PC11220 94R is not another AGM battery option but it is above $200. For the question about AGM battery in hot location: I never had any problem with AGM battery siting in hot Arizona garage in my BMW Motorcycle.

I meant "Odyssey PC11220 94R IS another AGM battery option but it is above $200."

Only 3 years and you need a new battery?
I got 9 out of the factory battery.

Had it tested?

I hope your garage wasn't 160-180 that the engine compartment gets to when you shut down the car. That is the temp range I was referring. 120 F is no issue whatsoever. The battery temp is enough of an issue the cooling fan has a duct that goes to the core support and then under the hood and finally into the top of battery box.

Guys I have several updates:
1. Sears tested my Volvo OEM battery and it is still good. But I now know where to get it when it goes out.
2. The original answer was correct in terms of Group number. Yes, it is still Group 48 for year 09 C70. How did I find out? I decided to measure the dimensions of the Volvo OEM battery which I currently have. It is 278mm long, 175mm wide and 190mm high which exactly fits with Deka AGM (9AGM48). I am NOT planning to go to Group 49 for several reasons: There is a rigid metal bus bar on the positive terminal which requires me to get the exact fit. Also it is not recommended to get a different size battery by Volvo owners manual and Sears said the same thing. Finally, Deka 9AGM48 is already 760CCA which is better than OEM 600CCA Lead Acid battery.
3. Deka batteries do not show up at Oreilly's website. I called the store too. But some inexperienced lady picked up the phone and she was not much help. But Deka AGM Batteries are available at Car Quest stores under their brand name and also available at Deka Dealers as well.
4. Deka AGM batteries meet Volvo battery vent requirements.

I purchased mine Monday from Car Quest with price matching with Oreillys at $145 (on Sale). But I reliazed after I installed the battery that Car Quest has 2 year free replacement warranty whereas Oreillys has 3 year free replacement warranty. I am hoping that the battery does not fail between 2 and 3 years of lifetime, so that I do not need to pull my hair out :-)
