horrible squeak coming from left front wheel-what's wrong?

Post by andrewo »

For the last 8 months, the left front wheel has had a horrible high pitched squeak. It usually starts happening once the car is warmed up and if I am going above 40 mph. Once I even touch the brake petal at all, the noise stops. I am 16 and I have no mechanical ability whatsoever so I gave it to my dad to fix. He is too old to hear the high pitched squeaking noise and his mechanic couldn't find anything wrong with the car at all. The brake pads are not worn out. It has been to three different shops and they have taken the whole thing apart and found nothing wrong. The people at the mechanic shops are too old to hear it and they act like I'm crazy. The noise is so bad now that I have to drive with the windows up and with the radio on because it drives me so insane. My dad now has given up trying to fix it and he just gets mad at me when I mention it. This forum is my last hope for freedom from the horrible noise. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Andrew, I have a 2004 T6 XC90, and had a horrible and constant squeak when reached 35 mph approx., my sound was in both front wheels, and it was originated by the brake rotor protecting plate (or Shield), one end (or corner tip) was slightly folded and this caused a ¨hard to see scratch line¨ on both rotors; this means that every time I heard the sound, the plate was ¨scratching¨ the rotor. So, I straightened both protecting plates with a pliers and the problem was solved, the ¨constant crying cat squeak¨ :D was gone.

This was my situation; hope this is helpful for you.

Good Luck!
