When to replace oil separator and vapor canister

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

When to replace oil separator and vapor canister

Post by thienle »

Hello,

Did anyone know at what point are the oil separator for the PVC system and the vapor canister recommended to be replaced?

Mine J-tube on the vapor canister was cracked causing the "check engine" light. I have a new J-tube and was wondering should I also replaced the canister while I'm at it.

I read a few posts about the PVC system on this site and learned that the crankcase should slightly negative pressure. Today I removed the oil dip stick and saw vapor came out from the oil dip stick's tube. I guess that I have a positive pressure in my crankcase and it is time to clean the PVC nipple that was mentioned in the volvo owner manual. Should I also replace the oil separator?

Mine is 2001 S80 2.9L non turbo, about 126k. I purchased it from a used car dealer and not sure what type of maintenance did the previous owner performed on it. Any help is greatly appreciate.

Regards,
Thien

If you dont know for sure if it has been done, I would do it now. I think the reccomended interval is 100K miles anyway.
