my 1996 850 turbo has 420 000km that i know of. the spedo and od do not work and i have no idea how long ago that was. i have only had the car a month or so and it runs like a dream. zero engine noise, does not smoke, the guy i got it from sais it takes about a litre of oil every 5000km but it has a couple leaks i am working on as well. i have a client at my garage that is up to 600 000km on his 850 turbo.

Doh'! I didn't read my own photograph. Well, close to 400k on the used replacement engine, not bad.

Hold on there, the replacement motor was used as well. Likely had 50,000 on it.

Indeed, at any rate not a bad amount at all. Probably still runs fine, too. Apparently that Irv Gordon guy with the several million mile P1800 has/had a million mile 93 850, according to a discussion about Volvo's we had on my BMW 2002 forum.

Wow, that's impressive. :o Is the transmission still original?

Yes, original transmission. I the the powerflush method at the radiator with SuperTech ATF every 30K miles. Shifts very smoothly. I do lots of hwy driving though, so most of the time is in 4th.

Even more impressive!

I always wanted to know how long one of these transmission can last with proper maintenance. It's great to have some real field data.
This makes me feel better about my 850. I'm basically doing the same thing as you for the last 200 k, flush every 30k, and the car gets about 2/3 highway driving. Still shifts fine after 233 k, and it sounds like it could last quite a bit longer :D .

Need to change my sig line, but mine just turned 280,000 miles. Was my sister-in-laws car, so I'm pretty sure same engine. Don't think the transmission fluid has ever been changed. Still goes 100 miles a day, 4 to 5 days a week. I baby it a little and don't mention the word turbo around it. :D .
