Cylinder 6 misfire, rough idle, no pressure in cylinder

Post by Sdarchangel1 »

I have a 96 960, after replacing many parts, it's started to idle rough. Code says cylinder 6 misfire. Plugs are new, coil pack is good. Clean AIC. Pressure in other 5 cylinders reads 180psi, cylinder 6 reads 10 psi. Could the valve itself be busted? Valve spring? If it was the o-ring , wouldn't there be more than 10lbs pressure? I'm hoping for the best! Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear about your car...Just a couple of thoughts....

You have already done the pressure test and if you are sure of your readings, pull the cam cover off and look. It could be something simple that may be holding the valve open just a bit...maybe a bad hydraulic lifter that is hanging open not letting the valve close completely....

It could also be a burnt valve but since there are two of each, I would think that the pressure would be a bit more than 10psi.

It may be a blown head gasket leaking pressure into the crankcase or the cooling system.

I hope this helps a bit....

im almost willing to put money on its a bad headgasket. this just happens on these 960er all of them. both of mine has had them and they are pretty easy to do actuley. if you have the cam locking tool that is

Im a volvo mechanic by trade and i can do this in about 8 hours time
first timers if you have done headgaskets before and know your way around cars can do it in about work days.
