My check valve was jammed shut too but more importantly the rubber elbows connecting it to the hard lines were cracked and leaky.
This might also cause the problem if the Purge valve does not fix it. It's right by the fuel filter just forward of the fuel tank on the passenger side. I used fuel line and stretched one end of it istead of trying to find the custom molded pieces that came off it.
If these are worn out as mine were you should also consider that the timing belt and tensioner might need replacing too.

How to Test and Repair your EVAP Valve
Hopefully someone can help me on this. I don't own a Volvo, I have a 2005 Mazda 3 with a Bosch purge solenoid valve just like this. I've been getting CEL P0441. I replaced the purge valve, didn't go away. I replaced the gas cap, didn't go away. I read that if you warm the car up then rev to 2-3K and disconnect the hose from the purge valve to the canister, that you can feel suction from the purge valve. I tried this and I don't, even with the new purge valve. I have also tested the connector from the wiring harness and I have voltage, but only from one pin. In your post it seemed to imply that I should have voltage from both pins. Is this true? If not, what on Earth am I missing? Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!

I just did this repair and it worked beautifully. I would only add to be cautious about overdoing it with the RTV, particularly in the bottom. I found that it clogged the ports and I had to disassemble it before the RTV had a chance to cure and pick everything clean.

I want to add a tip.
If the repair does not work, go to ebay and enter: "Bosch 0280142300"
There are some vendors selling the Bosch EVAP Purge Valve for $44 (Volvo price is $70 for the same thing).

Reading this post makes me think my purge valve is bad. I do get a p0455 pretty much all the time along with a P0171, lean code. My thoughts are that the possible leak in the purge valve may contribute to the P0171 which indicates that adjusting fuel trim to compensate for a lean condition has gone out of spec. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I have a 98 V70 AWD, square charcoal canister under the battery tray. Where is my purge control valve? I suspect mine isn't round but can't find it. I have not been able to figure out how to remove my canister either. I have gotten it fully loose but it feels like there are hoses holding it in place and I am afraid I'll make matters worse by yanking on things. Can anyone point me to a diagram for the AWD V70 (not XC)? Gas cap is new and VOLVO.

The purge valve is right behind the radiator, near the battery area.

I am just curious, has anyone cleaned this valve by submerging it in something like Carb Cleaner (Mineral Spirit etc.) over night instead of taking it apart?
Probably will accomplish the same job w/o usingt RTV sealant etc.

Thanks cn90,
I'll find that sucker tomorrow. Should it test poor, I'll do a carb cleaner thing and chime in afterwards. Be pretty sweet if that's my problem for the 455 and the 171, that will leave only a SAS pump error and a TCV problem that is probably old hoses.
