check engine light won't reset

Post by andreb »

I have a 2002 volvo s40 the check engine light is on the mechanic said it shows 6 codes 2 oxygen sensors idle control valve and
3 others I can't remember but he says it is odd that these connot be reset he feels he should be able to turn them off so that
it won't come back on until I start the car a few times but it comes back immedaitely. for this reason he is hesitant to just
replace sensors and such at a prettty high cost for fear it is really a ECM problem any way to tell? any suggestions? the car does idle a little rough but runs fine otherwise

Some codes do set immediately and some take a while. Your mechanic can see the freeze frame data which will show conditions exactly when the code set. This data should help him systematically find the reason for the 6 codes. It is possible for 6 failures to happen at the same time but unlikely. Perhaps he can find the cause of your issues.

If you like, post the codes next time you get them and others will post their experience with similar situations.
We are here to help.
