Autel eu702 vs. VolFcr

I'm only doing this comparison for the 96-98 cars.

Autel eu702. It's an awesome scanner, but it's real finicky on the 96-98's. It doesn't like to communicate, but when it finally does it does everything you want it to do. I've always had a hard time getting it to erase SRS and ABS codes..it takes about 8 tries to get it to work. On my 96 850 it would take forever, almost to the point where I would just give up.

Vol-fcr. An absolute dream to use on the 96-98's Instant communication and zero problem clearing codes. If you want something that's all-inclusive for a 96-98, this is the number one choice.

Now...the Autel is probably my favorite tool overall. It works like a dream on anything 99 and newer, plus if you know where to look you can upload just about any manufacturers file to it. I use mine on my Chryslers, Volvos and all of my friends cars if they need a scan. Being that it does TCU, SRS and ABS you can't beat it for the money...especially if you'll be using it on more than one car.

That being said, you don't have to get the eu702, you can also get a us703. It's the exact same unit, just different files on it. Just find the files you want and upload them to the unit.

What are you using for a VAG-COM cable?

My VOL-FCR is the serial version and I lost my cable when someone swiped my old laptop that actually had a serial port off of a job-site. Finding the true serial cables is getting tough and short of hauling an old desktop out to the car I don't have anything that has a serial port anymore.

Just curious as to what cable and drivers you use to make VOL-FCR work.

The $9 blue cable off of amazon. I'll check my computer this afternoon and see what the driver is and post a link to the cable. No problems on windows 7, I just had to change the com setting.

I didn't bother with the negative reviews on it, as I just dismissed most of those as people that expected to simply plug it in and it would work on it's own.

The driver is CDM20824_Setup.exe. I have it in my Google Drive if you need it, but it's available all over online. Install that driver with the cable plugged in, then go to your device manager and it will be at the bottom. Go into that and point it to COM1 in the advanced settings, it will likely be at 7 or something else.

Awesome!

I currently have it setup on an Acer Aspire-One Netbook I bought a couple of years ago. It works great on that and the netbook fits perfectly in the pocket in the seatback.

I do have an old Asus eee-701 that I bought new in 2007 when they first came out, it was borderline worthless then and is pretty much useless for anything today. I'm going to load a copy of windows on it and use it only for FCR.
