2004 V70T howling sound after TB change

Post by jimv »

Picked up my car from shop where I had water pump, timing belt, serp belt and all tensioners changed. In addition, had pcv sys cleaned and replaced a few parts. Now when I accelerate to around 1800 to 2300, I hear a howling sound like a bearing. I assumed it might be from AC, alternator or PS pump, but I cannot duplicate when its in neutral or park and rev to this rpm range--only if its in drive :( AND when im going down the road at this range and I hear the howl, I'll move to neutral, hold the rpms at say 2,000 and the howl stops. Back to drive and comes back! I checked trans fluid and its right on the mark. I'm lost. Any help or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jim.

Without hearing the howling no one can know for sure.. My guess, just from experience, would be that you have a loose intercooler hose or your turbo is on the way out. Check your intercooler hoses and if they're loose tighten them up. My volvo made a howling noise under similar circumstances and our turbo was failing/failed 20 minutes later when we tightened the intercooler hoses.

Good luck! It was an $1100 fix.
