93 DL240 has oil and bat lights on with no key in ignition

Post by SR Heer »

I have a weird 93 - DL 240 wagon problem - in that with the keys out and ign off the oil and sometiems battery warning lights remain on ??? but when starting and running warning lights go off - I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what it might be and how to check one thing or another - I was thinking it might be the ignition switch and or it might be the ECU or possibly even a relay but have no idea where to start - thanks for any ideas or suggestions!

I would suspect the electrical portion of the ignition switch. When the lights stay on replace the ignition key and move it around a little to see if there is a bad patch and the lights go out.

This is common on 240's with the ignition key located in the dash, especially when people use a heavy key fob attached to their ignition keys. We had problems with my daughter's car which were solved by replacing the electrical portion of the switch and removing eight of the ten keys and other oddments she thought necessary for driving her car.
