Air Filter Recommendations

Post by kmclovina321193 »

Hey everybody,
I'm driving an '01 S80 and I thought I'd change out the air filter seeing as I'd never done so in the two years I've had it. I went down to Autozone and got an STP air filter for $20 on sale with my oil so I figured it would be good for the car. I drove around with the new filter for a few weeks and the mileage display on the computer shot down from about 20 mpg to 16.5 in that time. Can't say I was too happy about that so I popped the old one back in and reset the counter and I'm around 19 now. Since STP is out of my picture and just sitting around the garage, what do you guys recommend I do now? Leave the old one in or buy a new one? Which brand?

Thanks :)

I went with the Mann filter sold by IPD. It's OEM and I prefer to stick to that. It's only $22 or so from what I recall.

Hey guys,
I was at the dealership today getting some work done and I went with an OEQ air filter for $30 and some change. The guy that runs it said he's been putting it in cars for years and he's had no problems with it. I put it in this morning, reset the mpg counter on the computer, and drove about 60 miles today. I averaged a solid 21.5 mpg for the day (both highway and suburb driving) and I can't complain. So far so good :)

The Volvo S80's cabin air filter keeps dust and dirt out of the passenger compartment. This filter should be replaced whenever it becomes dirty. It will need to be replaced more often when driving under dirty and dusty conditions. These instructions are for the 2004 and 2005 models, but the process is virtually identical for other S80 model years.
