dust under odometer glass

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

dust under odometer glass

Post by jdogvolvo10+ »

I have a 2010 S80. I have dust particles that have been accumulating slowly inside the instrument cluster under the glass. Six months ago the dealership removed the glass and blew out the dust with canned air. They did this at no charge under the warranty and said the problem was fixed. Six months latwr, the dust is becoming noticeable again. Especially when it is sunny outside. I asked the dealership if they would take care of whatever problem I had. And they said they removed the dust the first time as a onetime courtesy and it would cost me $160.00 for the labor to do it again. They said it would take 90 mins to perform this treatment. Also stated that having dust wouldn't cause problems with the gages and was only cosmetic and therefore not a warranty issue covered by volvo. I stated that it appears it wasn't fixed the first time. I talked to the manager of the service department and the national volvo hotline and they said they would not do anything, and getting dust under there is something that happens with all cars. Well, this is the nicest car I've ever had and its never happened with my four other domestic cars.

Has anybody else ever had this problem with dust? There are about 20 particles and slowly getting worse. Can someone give me advice on how to eliminate the problem? I feel the dealership isn't taking care of me especially since I am a paying customer, buying a 42k car off of them 3 yrs ago and I've spent 4k over the years at the dealershp on upgrades, car detailing, service etc.
