1994 850 Sedan Automatic Transmission Problem

Post by jefaulkner »

My car is having trouble shifting out of first gear when I drive it for the first time each day. I've discovered that if I go through all of the gears several times before driving, it sometimes helps it to shift smoothly. Other times, going through all the gears causes the arrow light to begin flashing. If I turn my car off and on a few times, it seems to reset the computer, which makes the arrow light turn off. Sometimes when I turn it off to restart it, the car won't start at all, and I have to wait about 5 minutes before I can successfully start the car. Eventually, the car will start without the flashing arrow and the transmission will shift smoothly through the gears. Once I go through this in the morning, the car is perfect for the rest of the day...drives beautifully, starts with no problems, and shifts easily.

Is my transmission fluid somehow not circulating correctly when I first start it, and why does the flashing arrow come on? I've checked my transmission fluid according to the instructions in my manual, and the levels look fine. Has anyone had this problem?
