How long should a PCV job last?
On my '98 V70 I did a complete PCV job, with all new parts when I bought the car at 103,000 miles. 27,000 miles later showing signs of needing a redo. Shouldn't it have lasted longer?

Done properly and thoroughly if you then use synthetic oil and change it every 4-5000 miles, it should last forever.
The job was not done right.....

This is another item I want to look after before swapping out the engine . Heck of a lot easier when it's out .

What are the signs you are observing exactly? Might be excess crankcase pressure from coked ring packs. Leakdown test mightn't be a bad idea.

It largely depends on what brand name the parts were in your "kit". I have an OEM parts replacement that is still doing well at 100k miles. I just replaced another one that lasted under 50k miles that had a bunch of URO branded parts.

Thanks for the input. I did use the FCP kit, didn't realize the parts could be so inferior. So, I recently had a bout of trouble with misfires and generally rough running. Replaced plug wires cap and rotor and found a lot of moisture under the distributor cap. Ran fine for a couple days then started acting up again. Pulled the cap and rotor again and this time removed the disc that the rotor mounts to. Supprise, the cam seal was completely pushed out. Crank case moisture was condensing under the cap causing the misfires. After getting it all back together I check and I've got the classic smoking dipstick.
Curious, I've never heard the term "coked ring packs", what does that mean?

Basically over time the piston rings get cludged up with carbon/coke and do not seal as well. As a result, more pressure escapes past them into the crankcase, raising the crankcase pressure beyond what the vacuum system can handle.....smoking dipstick ahoy.
Another thing to consider is a vacuum leak.
Not saying there isnt validity in what people are saying about the parts being toast, but it does no harm to consider other possible factors too.

I did mine a couple of years ago, or less. I had made it a yearly thing to clean ptc, which has been staying clean. The last time I tried to clean ptc,the pipe shattered. I went with the ulitimate fix, and replaced the plumbing down low. Those items were hard as a rock. I used volvo hoses, and used regular clamps to get good tight fit..which seemed to not happen to well with the otto clamps.
