240 exhaust

Post by markvt »

I rencently replaced the original front muffler on my 1992 240 with an aftermarket version. I noticed improved performance. Was the original factory muffler fairly restrictive?
I have never had the rear muffler last more than 2 years. I guess it's the short trips that allow the moisture to build up. Normally when I replace a rear muffler I can drain out about 4-6 ounces of water fromt the reusted carcus. Recently I have drilled two small holes in the rear muffler to keep the moisture drained. I'll see if this helps the longevity. The shops that do the annual safety inspections frown on holes in mufflers, so i just screw in a small sheetmetal screw before inspection. I had a Ford product with factory drain holes in the muffler and the inspection stations never had a problem because they were factory holes.
And yes, I have used NAPA lifetime warranty mufflers and so have been getting free repacements over the years.
