Vibration at highway speeds

Post by CTVolvodriver »

Hi,
I have a 2008 XC90 that I bought used in July with 49K. The car now has 66K on it, and thus far it has driven and run flawlessly. Last week however when I was on the highway, I noticed a vibration in the car when I got above 65mph. The vibration wasn't serious (didn't affect driving) but it was pronounced enough that my 5 year old noticed it. There was no noise that went along with it, or any other indication of a problem. The car drives like normal when below 65mph. I did get brand new tires a month ago, and I am wondering if perhaps a belt has shifted or something. I've driven the car long distance on the highway since getting the tires, and didn't have a problem until last week. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
Tom Craig

Wheel(s) out of balance would be the primary suspect if this is at or above certain speed. Have you revisited the place where you got the new tires on?
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

Hi,
Thanks for the input. I haven't been back to the shop yet. I drove it on the highway once, to my destination and back, and then didn't have a chance to be on the highway, but drove the car daily and it was normal. My wife took the car this weekend on the highway, and noticed the same thing. I'll contact the shop and see what they have to say.
Thanks!
