I just bought a second hand blinker lens assembly (rop rear left) - old one was cracked when I bought the car.
Am I going to have to remove the cabin trim to access all the nuts to remove and replace? Or is it just a matter of following the same procedure for replacing bulbs (accessing the bolts through the fairly narrow recesses)?
thanks...

I think if you remove the panel in the back (right in front of the lens from inside the car) there are a couple of screws holding the plastic onto the car...it's very easy. Just undo these, pry a bit from the outside of the car and it should come right off. At least this is the way it was with our last 850 wagon. I haven't really looked at our V70 which should be the same as yours...just have had the panel off to replace bulbs...seems the panel has a piece of velcro along with a notch it goes into...no pulling up the trim...nothing that difficult iirc.

You will also need an 8mm tube spanner to remove the nuts from the back of the taillight assembly.
I would also suggest you tie a piece of string to the tube spanner and secure the opposite end to something convenient .
Why?
Because, if the tube spanner falls into the body cavity, it can be easily retrieved by pulling up the string (my tube spanner did and is now lost forever - I'm simply being wise after the event).

There are only two types of car owners - those who own Volvos and those who wish they did.
Great advice - thanks..
I noticed there's an additional fastening point at the very top of the reflector, which is actually busted on the replacement part (I assume the dismantler wasn't aware that it existed either) - fairly mickey mouse pice of plastic with a hole through it.
Here's an image of it:
I think that's going to be the difficult one to access.

This must be a modification brought in on the later V70 (+'01).
I have both 850 and early (-'01) V70 upper taillight assemblies and they are identical except the 850 has an amber indicator lens while the V70 has a clear indicator lens which requires a coloured bulb.
If it is not absolutely necessary to replace that little tab and you can fit the taillight assembly onto the vehicle quite securely, then I wouldn't worry too much about the small broken-off part.
Sorry I can't help you out more than that.

Just my luck - I wish I could just swap the lens - as that's the only bit that's cracked on the already mounted one.
Anyway - I'll update should I figure it out (if I don't manage to break the older one)
thanks.

Volvo don't seem to be replacement lens type of people.
I have just smashed the glass on a front foglight and guess what - yep a whole new foglight has to be bought just because the lens are glued into the front case; a bit like the tailight lens are glued to the body of the taillight.
Must be more money in it for Volvo doing it that way. Certainly is an expensive way for the poor owner trying to maintain his car in respectable condition.
