Climate Control playing up

Post by JoeSmith »

Hi

The climate control on my 2002 V70 doesn't appear to be working properly. It's as though the temperature sensor has developed a fault and it can't now maintain a constant, comfortable temperature inside the cabin without getting confused. It's normally set to about half way but recently, it started randomly blowing cold air and increasing the fan speed so we have to crank it round to full heat to get any warmth. It's the same whether the air conditioning is on or off. Does anyone have any ideas if there's anything I can do about this? I know there are several components to the heating system and don't want to start pulling things apart until I can get a solid idea of what might be causing this. There's still a couple of months of colder weather to cope with so I'd like to get it fixed.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance, it's much appreciated.

Joe

I'm afraid I haven't done any diagnostics. Living in rural France it's a pretty major trek to get to a Volvo dealer and round these parts they're the kind who charge €258+tax for a rubber turbo pipe so I'm not going near any kind of diagnostician any time soon. Was hoping someone here might have had the same thing and a fix.

Cheers

Joe

Does that special pricing approach apply to everyone evenly or are only English speaking folks eligible
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

wow!$$$ i am sorry to hear that well they are known for having problems with the ccm themselves. have you tried switching the position of the air around to feet? do you get the same results?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try changing the air position today and will see what it does.

All the best

Joe

P.S. Volvo France seem really bad. I hope it's not just English folk who pay but it wouldn't surprise me sometimes. I only buy parts from the UK and Germany now. The €258+tax Turbo pipe wasn't the end of the story. They wanted another €200+ to fit it. Their credit card machine was allegedly broken too so they demanded cash on the spot. I told them where to go and to keep the part. They then shut the gates and wouldn't let me out until I paid them €24 cash to cover delivery and sending back of the part. I eventually got away with "only" giving them €20 to let us out! I reported this to Volvo Sweden. They told me they'd asked Volvo France about this and they'd been told they'd settled the matter with me - they didn't, I never even received a phone call. So I have Volvo France down as liars and won't use their network. I gaffer taped up the turbo pipe, drove to the UK and got a main dealer to fit a new one for £105 all in (which I still thought was a lot for rubber piping).

The air temperature sensor can be clogged with fluff. It is located under a small grill on the faceplate of the CCM. You will see a pin head under the grill, it is the thermistor. Be careful, it is fragile. Many have broken it in trying to remove the fluff with a small pick. Use a shopvac to vacuum the fluff. The thermistor is located in front of a small fan and the fluff get stuck in there.

Also a new cabin filter helps with air circulation. It is often neglected.

Hopes it will help.
