ECU or Harness? Not ready to give up yet!

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I'm surprised they would need the key to clone an ECU...? All the info for immo is in the e-squared chip on the board so there's no need for a key or even vin

If you need help cloning email me and I'm sure I can get you setup more reasonably! Wouldn't be the first P2 ECU I've had to clone :)

I've read up on them before, I don't think they need the key to do it as reviews from others show that they really don't do anything at all. They either keep your ecu or send you another fresh out of the Junkyard and call it good. I haven't seen a single legit positive comment about them anywhere online, everything is negative and stories of people losing money.

Aaaaaaaaahhh...!! I feel like a new man!! I finally received my ECU. I don't think this guy touched it. He said they tested it and it's bad which I think is only BS but thank God for people in this forum that are helping others make better decisions. Now the question is: is my ECU messed up for real??? Let the pros speak!!

I need more comments and suggestions please.

Thanks again for guiding me!

Last thing, Jeff, if you ever read this post, thanks for not touching my ECU! :-)

Okay.. So after the good news come the bad news..

I put the ECU back... Made sure it was secured and everything fit properly... Now car won't start. Starter is not even clicking. I tried jump starting and nothing happens. I turn the key and nothing. So what's going on now? Only message I see on the dash is DsTc something something ...

Should I just start parting out this car?

Thanks :-)

Message on the dashboard says: STC SERVICE REQUIRED.

I checked fuses on the engine compartment and everyone looks good.

Did I mess up something in the ECU slot?
Is the car in some kind of mode that does not allow me to start it???

Before all this huge mess same thing happened where the car won't start after a few times of turning the key to on position but after that it would turn on. Plus I never had a working cruise control which makes me thing ABS control module could be defective.

Any comments or thoughts are very much appreciated!

At this stage it may be a good idea to hook up to Vida and check the code set to see if it's the same as before. If it's a very unique one you won't be blamed for thinking your ECU was swapped by that outfit. Were there any markings you can recognise?

Check the pins on the ECU and on the block connector on the car for bent or pushed in connectors.

In any case you need to either learn, how to take specific measurements for each of the faulty items then trace the wires back to the corresponding pins on the ECU to check continuity for that circuit OR you pass this job on to someone who can determine either a wiring or ECU fault.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! --------SUCCESS-------- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY! My S80 is back on the road thanks to this amazing Volvo independent shop in San Mateo, CA.

I didn't plug the ECU properly and I messed with the TCM too and they were not connected far enough. (BAD GROUND SYMPTONS).

So they figured it out and my lovely pain in the ass S80 is back to life!!! And that's not it! It also passed the smog test!!! YAY!! :D :D :D :D :o :o :o

I'm very thankful for this website, comments, suggestions, etc etc

Thanks everybody!! I will be posting more problems as they come along! lol
