99 c7o overheated and won't start

Post by volvoc70 »

Last week my 99 c70 overheated and just cutoff. I have tried to start it and it will turn over but won't start. I can smell fuel coming out of the exhaust, so I think this is telling me that I have no fire. Any ideas?

Time to dig into it.

Get the codes and let us know. A cursory check of fuses and visual inspection for burnt wires is always a good idea as well.

Once the car is overheated it is best for you to change out all of the fluids once the overheating issue was remedied.
If your coolant temp sensor went bad it could be flooding the engine.

Get under the hood and let us know what you find. We can help more once we know.

Why did it overheat ,what codes etc?

I tested the spark plugs and used a continuity tester to check that the coil packs were good. Unfortunately I do not have a tester or access to one. When I removed one of the spark plus and was testing for spark I noticed that the engine tried to start, meaning it turned over quicker. It seems to have a build up of pressure in the engine. When it did over heat it blew the dipstick out about 2 " and shot oil over the top and sides of engine. It seems that I have to much compression or I just don't know. Also the icing on the cake, a friend of mine whom I trust said that he thought it jumped timing and adjusted the timing. Now I think it is even more screwed up.

Thanks for your reply.

Well - if it jumped time you probably have damaged the valves so its time for a compression test.
Pull the plugs and do a compression test. Let us know.

Actually time for pics

If anything else happened please let us know now.

I don't think you should turn the negine over with suspected wrong timing. In these motors if it was right and is now wrong you can bend the valves just by using the starter.

Take off the side cover. Pull all the plugs and turn the crank to TDC - then take a pic of the cams and their marks. You may have to turn it one full time to get to the correct timing marks on the cams. If you feel any resistance with the plugs out while turning then stop.

If no resistance then do a compression test and report back on what you found.

Let us know what you found either way.

Do you know why it overheated ?

I have the same problem. Last night I was driving home got off the high way and car just stopped and car over heated. I tried turning on the car this morning, the car has a slow crank but won't turn on. I don't hear the fuel pump humming so I'm think fuel pump or fuse burnt by the way it is a 98 v70 glt
