Well - I took the leap and purchased a 2001 V70 with 66,000 Kms, a few minor scrapes, but altogether a very nice SE Turbo.
I have 3 months to get any problems fixed and I've identified a few already - the dealer wants to fix them themselves, so I'm not overly confident, as they're not a Volvo dealership.
Has anyone got any thoughts on the following - ie are they minor things?
A bit of a clunk shifting into reverse - not always, only after travelling a small distance and first time going into reverse (ie I can shift in and out of reverse at a standstill and it's fine) - an adjustment?
A couple of electrical things:
When I adjust the steering column the audio controllers (in the steering wheel) stop working - I have to move it again to get them to function - probably just need the contacts reseated?
I got in the car the other day and the cabin fan was blowing full blast - no key in the ignition and the car locked - seems a bit weird - anybody experience that before?
The emissions system service light came on - they're going to look into that, also.
Would like to know if anybody has any thoughts on any of these issues.
V70 2001 - repairs under dealer warranty
On the reverse clunk, I've seen this to be a fairly common problem. See this thread

Volvo dealer has new tranny software ($30 software + 1 hour labor). They will do that first. If not fixed, they move to repace valve body ($1000+ job) and other parts.
On cabin fan blowing. If you had the AC on during previous drive, the fan will run to get rid of moisture in the system. I hear it is called "after blow"

My dealer has stopped installing valve bodies, they say they really don;t work.
Do the software, MAKE SURE THEY REMOVE THE STOP NEUTRAL FUNCTION.
On the latest US software it's removed automativally but I don't know about down under.
If they look at you as if you're crazy, get a hold of me and give you the correct software part number
If that doesn't help, just drive it until the trans craps out

All good info..
The gearbox is pretty smooth despite this issue - unless the tranny craps out in next 2 months it will be my problem - I'll mention the software.
After blow makes sense - the aircon was on prior.
There are a million and one things to flatten the battery, it seems.

An update - I got the car back after the warranty 'repairs' - nothing fixed and engine light still on.
I was told that a gearbox mount had to be replaced (they didn't update the software, BTW) - but there's still a pause and clunk (as bad, if not worse, than before).
The Emissions Service light is still on - they said that they'd replaced the sensors, updated the software and that the service light would automatically go out after a few days driving (?) - I've had the car for 5 days and it's still on, although I haven't done any major trips in that time - that seems odd to me, I would have thought it would need to be reset (not just reset by itself) - does anybody have any advice on this?

I just read the reset instructions for the CEL https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/reset. ... lly%20now.

This used car dealer doesn't have the technical know-how nor the equipment to do a software download to your car. You'll need to convince them to let you take your car to a real Volvo dealer and them foot the bill. Under warranty, you shouldn't have to be worrying about doing ANYTHING yourself.
Copy this thread out for the used car place if you need to. We'll all vouch for you that some things HAVE to be done by the dealer...this goes for ALL of us...even some of us who are technically and mechanically savy enough to DIY for most things.

I agree - I originally suggested that a dealer undertake the repairs, but they actually said that they'd end up finding too many things wrong and charging them through the roof - which begs the question.
I'll let you know how I go.

Dealers are not doing valve bodies anymore, doesn't solve the problem.
The latest softwars patch USUALLY will get rid of the clunk (remove stop neutral), if not, either live with it or get a new tranny
As for the steerig wheel, that's a new one on me
