I live in Malaysia where the weather temperature remains constant between 30 to 35 deg. Centigrade throughout the year.
My 1979 Volvo S90 recently experienced high temperature (red) and resulted in a top engine overhaul. Is it possible to drive the car with the thermostat removed./
Previously I had a Volvo 740 and used it for many years with the thermostat removed.

You can but its better for the car to have a more regulated temp. For customers with this concern we advise them to buy a fail safe thermostat that locks open in cases of overheating. Here they are made by a company called Motorad. Here is a video to introduce the concept.
