Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 2.9L - Codes P0751 & P1618

Post by agraves138 »

Good evening guys,

1999 Volvo S80 2.9L Non-Turbo with 150K on the dash. Seems this car is in Limp Mode and is throwing codes P0751 & P1618 (Only have a generic scanner). The car seems to not want to accelerate past 2000 RPM and feels forced as it tries to pick up speed, but sometimes it randomly catches and the car guns it into overdrive and the RPM's pick up. Fluttering the pedal will keep the car running in overdrive, but after a few a very short time the car loses the power and falls back under 2000 RPM and doesn't want to go higher. Car seems to run this way whether in "D" or "3".

The previous owner had purchases a Master Solenoid Kit from Electrical Advantage, Inc. (http://www.electricaladvantage.net/4t65 ... o2002.aspx), and said that someone had told him this was the problem, but that he didn't have the time or knowledge to fix it himself and a transmission shop would be way too expensive.

Before I start taking apart the car to get into the gear box, is there anything else I should be checking?

PS: I tried searching up code P0751 on the forums and came up with a few threads but none seemed to show the problem completely fixed.

Exactly what warning messages are popping up on the dash?

I'm seeing an air bag "SRS" light. And occasionally while driving the "!" General Warning Light. Though I haven't seen if it was Orange of Red I will have to check today.

Ok after driving the car again today, the only messages I noticed on the dash was the "!" in red (intermittently), and the Air Bag Light was illuminated and the message "SRS Service Required Urgent". Is there anything that I can check prior to going the route of replacing the entire transmission?

Thanks, from what I've been reading the P0751 code is for a "Shift Solenoid Performance Fault", and the P1618 seems to be a general Code to trigger the check engine light.

I'm wondering if there is anything else I could check or perhaps any way to reset the computer to see if these codes go away and or stay away, OR check to see what might be triggering these codes to begin with.
