VIDA Question
I recently downloaded a VM Vida through a message at this site (I don't know how to do that "viewtopic" business). I got it running and it actually runs pretty OK on a 1 gig ancient Acer machine. Part numbers there, is that how the dealer determines the right part number to order meaning I can place my trust in the P/Ns that are pulled up and order the parts via that number? I am close to Tasca Volvo in RI and their site is easy to order from via part number. Big help too when looking for replacement parts that maybe non-volvo would be OK.

Yup. Parts are what it's best for... The technical information is useful, but definitely angled at experienced techs, so a bit cursory for us folks that don't work on cars all day in a proper shop with all the special tools.

A lot of the 'special tools' in it could be circumvented or substituted for with smart tricks, or they may become simply unnecessary if one can sacrifice a bit more time (of which we apparently have much more than we have money)
The procedures and specifications in VIDA are precious - like the tightening torques - and the functional descriptions or 'theory of operation' - make everything intuitive and pretty easy to follow, even for a shadetree Mech.
The DiCE interface is what I like most - with its testing and event analysing capabilities.

Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
