89' 740 turbo won't start

Post by sasssy »

I have a 740 turbo intercooler that is not getting spark. I replaced the ignition coil checked all of the plugs and wires. Being a highschooler on a fixed budget I would like to do this myself or have my dad help me. I was driving the other eve and everything just shut down. We checked the timing belts etc. and decided to hope is was the coil . :( Any ideas??? Where is the crankshaft sensor? I'm sorry i need my wheels!!!!

Few things to check for no spark condition. First, the hall effect sensor. Your 89 does not have a sensor on the crank (came a year later) It's on the distributor, on the back of the motor, check on the bottom (6:00 position) for a little plastic clip with wires coming from it. These little clips break a lot. That's the lead for the hall effect sensor, which sends a signal to another common failure part, the ignition amplifier. It's a little part (about the size of a credit card) on the inner side fender (driver's side)just above the battery. You can also check the harness at the this amplifier (pin 5, the BLUE lead) for a pulsing 2 volts when you crank the motor. That would tell you the hall sensor is OK, and the problem is further downstream (back @ the ignition amplifier or FI relay). Also, check out the fuel injection relay (interior, passenger side, behind the left kick panel. Green relay, 1x1x2 inches. The solder connecting the relays to the board crack, and can kill both the fuel and ignition (i belive the fuel and ignigion are tied together for safey, ei, ignition dies, fuel stops to keep gas from pumping..) That covers most of what kills the ignition. Good luck.
