While providing a battery jump to my daughters car, my 940 died when she tried to start her car. My check engine light was on and I got a 2-2-1 code.
I checked various books and websites and the many things to look for include: Bad AMM (air mass meter), Running Lean, air leak, low fuel pressure, O2 sensor, Lambda Sonde, air intake leak.
The only symptom I had previous to the check engine light coming on was lower fuel mileage, about 3-5 miles per gallon.
I checked for leaks, found none, Cleaned the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor located adjacent to the air box.
I cannot find the Lamda Sonde or the Pre-catalytic convertor O2 sensor. Can anyone tell me where these are?
How do you check fuel pressure?
Another question I have is : I have the VADIS - Volvo Aftersales Diagnostics and Information System on my home computer, and when logging into the program it asks for engine type B230 F Regina or B230F 2.4 LH. I know mine is a B230F Left Hand Driving, 4 door with sunroof, but the Engine size is 2.3L. What am I? A Regina or 2.4 LH?
Thanks.

The O2 sensor on the 940 is in the exhaust manifold. Have you tried erasing the code and running the car to see if the code returns? That is always my first step when the check engine light comes on.
To check fuel pressure you need a pressure tester connected to the fuel pressure regulator (FPR). However, a quick indicator of a fuel pressure problem is how the engine runs. If the FPR is failing it either provides full pump pressure to the injectors, resulting in an over rich condition, or inadequate fuel pressure, in which case the car will barely run and have no power. If the FPR is pressuring up and giving the engine too much fuel the spark plugs will be wet and/or carbon fouled, exhaust will be black and sooty, check engine light will come on, and the OBD will throw codes 113 (fault in fuel injectors) and/or 232 (fuel system compensating for rich or lean mixture at idle). It has also been known for the main fuel pump to start squealing and get hot to the touch when running.
The B230F Regina and the B230F 2.4 LH relate to the fuel systems fitted to the car. A quick way to determine which system is fitted is to look at the ignition coil. The Regina coil is a weird sort of amplifier-looking thing on the LH strut tower whilst the Bosch coil is a standard looking cylinder-shape. Another possible difference is the number of fuel pumps fitted. Generally the Regina system has one in the tank whilst the Bosch system has one in the tank and one under the car. Later Bosch 940s may only have one in the tank. Volvo loves to confuse people.

Bill,
Thanks for all the suggestions and answers to my questions. I checked everything, no luck. Meanwhile, my 940 suddemly decided to run even more badly.
It felt as if it were running on just the battery and was about to die. I quickly turned around and sped for home.
The solution:
While reviewing other posts for similar problems like all the ones I had been experiencing, I found a post which said to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. I did that and everything seems to work great right now. Unbelievable!
