1994 940 Turn Signal Assembly

Post by pastorbud »

So I bought a set of turn signal assemblies from fcpeuro.

http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-t ... 60-3518622

They seem to be the right overall size and shape, and I got the old ones out very easily.

But... the new ones don't have quite the same shape on the little clips and posts that fit into the holes and posts on the car. They seem to go on, but will not go the last 3/8 of an inch back to land flush with the headlights.

Dealer want $110 apiece for these babies, and I hate to have to send these back to the online place.

Any mods or suggestions?

All the aftermarket ones seem to look the same. Problem seems to be that one of the pins on the back of the new unit is shaped differently than the original.

If you look at the back view here:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/replacement-oe ... 3y1994g2j1

the pin at the lower left corner of the new unit is shaped like an asterisk "*". The old one was just shaped like at plus sign "+" and fit into corresponding plus-signed shape slots at the bottom of the hole.

There are two different turn signal assemblies, one for the headlights with built-in fog lights and one for the headlights that do not have built-in fog lights. As far as I can remember the fittings are different.

Yep. Turns out I don't have fog lights. There's a fog light switch on the dash (!) but no fog lights. Turns out my son's Chevy Silverado truck is the same way. Drove to Old Saybrook today and got the right ones.

The new ones went on fine in about 2 minutes each. Oddly, I not only have a fog light switch, when I hit the switch, it lights a "fog light indicator" on the dash.

But there are no foglights, and there's no evidence (modified wiring, unconnected connectors) under the hood that anyone installed a different system. Weird.

The fog lights were built in to the headlight unit. It is possible that someone has changed the headlights for the non-fog type.
