cheapest and best etm fix

Post by wingchun neil 55 »

i have found what i believe to be the best option for a failed or failing etm for an s 60 2000 model volvo. once verified by a volvo dealer in brisbane that my etm is faulty i was quoted $1,600 for a new one. but after researching this website i found the answer.PRECISION is the name of the company. $360 aus for a remanufactured unit. simply remove your old etm, or in the case of a turbo model not so simple, be sure not to cut the cable, take the time to remove the starter motor. you can replace the starter motor straight away as you can reroute the cable and not go behind the starter when you put your new etm back in. once the etm is removed put rags to cover the inlet manifold and air filter. then carefully wrap the unit in bubble wrap and cardboard and send to precision at 173 murray road, preston, victoria 3072. ring mike on1300886955 he will guide you every step of the way. he will check the unit thoroughly and if need be replace the faulty tape and finger system which gives all the trouble, with the sacer electronic system, in a couple of days you will have your unit back, just bolt it back on plug in the connrctor, secure the lead with cable ties, and start her up, vroom,it will take a few minutes for the computer to re establish connection, no need to have it calibrated by volvo, and away you go, the car goes better than before i think due to the accuracy of the throttle position sensing mechanism. so what started out as a fearful and expensive procedure ended up great, thanks to mike. he is also working on other electronic modules. . i hope this helps prevent the situation my young daughter had to endure when travelling down the m1 at 100kms ,b doubles zooming past, then suddenly no power, what would you do?

Thanks Neil, glad your daughter likes her car better when it's running :D

Note this is an Australian service though I have handled ETMs from NZ now and then.

For USA customers I can also help out though postage cost would be higher and waiting time greater.

Does anyone have experience with the fix from the seller in Isrial?
They sell a plastic end unit that you install on one end of a white-label ETM. It has the non-contact assembly inside and sells for less than $150 US.
This seems to be the cheapest and no programming is needed.
Seller says he supplies the full instructions on how to remove the old encapsulated unit and put the new encapsulated unit in. I see several on e-bay. They have a wire sticking out.
Someone said the instructions are only a link to the Matthews site.
Can anyone supply the link?
Thanks,
