Just replace this: http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-t ... 0280750131

No need for adaptation. Just make sure the codes are cleared before starting the engine (if you have any)

It will then start at around 1,500rpm then slowly re-adjust over about 2 miniutes

If it has come to the point that the solution to the problem may be to go out and purchase a $300+ part, wouldn't it be prudent to spend a few bucks to have the codes scanned to see if they point to the same culprit?

OP hasn't stated there are codes. Often throttle issues present with none.

OP if you're out there it would be a great idea to read codes. Personally I would have just concentrated on the throttle issue. A blocked PCV isn't known for causing varying idle or hunting.

Removing the throttle to clean takes around 30 minutes.

Codes; please note that these codes came AFTER I cleaned the TB and PCV. Not before

P0068 MAP/MAF Throttle correlation
P0126 Throttle/Pedal position sensor A circuit High input
P0222 Throttle/Pedal position sensor B circuit Low input

Again these are here after the work. I don't remember what it read before the "clean up"

The oscillating idle would come on right at the start. I would let it run couple of minutes then stop - restart the engine and it would run smooth for several more no-problem starts. Very sporadic.

Other than cleaning the throttle body, troubleshooting the throttle system is uncharted territory for me. But if I didn't know better, I'd say those codes sound more like a problem with the throttle pedal switch rather than with the throttle body itself. We need the input of a more seasoned expert.

The code reader you have can only bring up codes. You now need detailed analysis of each componont. Do achieve this at a reasonable price you need a Vida/Dice setup. They're all over eBay and Alibaba and range down to $120 delivered.

While idling at 580 rpm the MAF part number 02802180888 should be providing a reading of approx. 18kg/hr air reading.

When the poor idle occurs you can analyse the pedal position and see whether it rises in a smooth linear percentage on the readout. If not replace pedal sensor.

The Bosch throttle body has a resistive film which can get dirty and cease to provide correct output to the car's ECU. The throttle angle can be viewed in Vida and again you are looking for a smooth linear percentage change in throttle angle when drilling down in Vida. This throttle can be cleaned. The unit has stainless snap locks around the body which can be removed. I recently cleaned a Bosch throttle body's contacts in an '03 XC70 and made it worse, necessitating replacement so if you're going down this path have a boxed one on hand.

So to sum it up analyse MAF, throttle body and throttle pedal sensor. The analysis will give you feedback; hopefully enough to reach a decision on what to replace.

Hi and thank you precopster

I'm taking your advice for getting a DICE, I have an old VADIS.

Now, you mentioned 120$ delivered. Could you give me one or two seller name you trust (have dealt with?)
I found http://www.bestcardiag.com (they promise 3-5 days delivers for +-$150) I am sure their software is a copy, probably so is the DICE device.
There is also "421 auto" where it cost more and ships 14 days after receiving full amount

Thank you.

Just read their feedback; eBay sellers come and go. I don't recall who I bought mine from as it was over 16 months now.

Lots of sellers on Alibaba. Check feedback. Some allow credit card payment and others Escrow or Western Union. There is a seller on Alibaba named Shenzen Digobd or something to that effect;they sold me a faulty unit then were impossible to contact. I have blacklisted their exact name in Garages and parts suppliers here on Matthews.
