Wanted for 1998 V70

Post by novaman83 »

I am looking for the panel that snaps onto the top of the steering column. It goes between the dash and the steering wheel. The catches are broken on mine and it pops up which drives me nuts!! So, catches have to be intact to hold it in place.
I am in Alexandria, VA.
Thanks

Thank you! I've got the same darn problem. What is that part name / number anyway?

Just start watching classifieds for someone parting out a compatible car. I'm not sure but I think they're all the same color. I'm going to try to stop by a JY soon to look for one. If I see one, I'll come back and answer my P/N question and if there's an extra I'll let you know.

I may have one but instead of springing for a new one, I do this:
Use a SMALL drop of silicone on each side and glue it, it sill stay put
I say small drop because
1: that all you need, it's not a stress piece and
2; if you find that you need to remove it in the future, a quick slice with a razor blade will remove it

After silicone, tape it shut overnight to make sure it's nice and tight
I've even done this on my wife's R

The only reason you would really need to remove it is to fix a turn signal or the clockspring, repairing the tilt mechanism, installing a new ignition lock or changing the steering wheel

Thanks for the tip Jim. I thought about super glue but wondered about how to get it apart if I need to. Silicone is great stuff. Sounds like it is good for reattaching some parts on the back side of the door card too. I'll try silicone on the steering column part. Thanks again!

That's a good idea since they ALL break eventually, even with proper care.

I use silicone to glue the door panels back together, like a rock when done!
Bear in mind buy at least two (2) tubes if you're doing doors, you need a LOT of it!
