V70 '03 Engine Stalling

Post by Ditterb »

I have an '03 V70 and have had very little problem up until now and I am lost- any help would be great.

As I was driving about 20mph and turning the engine just shut down on me, I was able to restart it but only to have it shut down again. I had it towed to be looked at and fixed. The diagnostic said it was the Fuel Pump Sensor- which there was a recall on that. They told me it was running fine, I went to pick it up and it stalled again. They looked at it and concluded that the fuel pump will need to be replaced. It was replaced however you they could not get it running this time. They then realized it was the body throttle and it needed cleaning. They were able to get it running but when I went to go pick it up- I turned the key and it instantly shut down. They called today and said it was running fine again. I do not understand the car was running fine up until the engine stalled and now it runs for a bit then quits.

When I was turn the key over it would run for a few seconds then all the dashboard lights would come on and the front engine part would shake, causing the whole front of the car to shake then completely shut down.

I have been searching as to what this could be and clearly the people looking at it are not solving the real problem. I am nervous to get the car back and only have it stall again. The car has about 140k miles and has had its regular maintenance.

Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated! I love this car and want it running normal again.

Is this a turbo? I think I saw your post on volvo-forums where one person replied to replace the ETM with XeModex. They have a nice diag flow chart: http://www.xemodex.com/technologyimprov ... 0Chart.pdf

That's a serious gremlin - many possibilities. When they replaced the fuel pump, they saw the pressure was good after that? There are a few fairly easy tests to check things like the PCV system, look at the air filter, etc.

I've seen threads on stuff like this.

Just for kicks, check the battery connections and ground wires to make sure the car has a solid electrical circuit to work with. When you say "dashboard lights would come on" and then it dies, it REALLY starts to sound like an electrical connection issue...like a loose battery cable or weak ground.

'03 NA has a Denso TB; very rare and only in use until '04. If it's a turbo it will use a Bosch TB.

So the flowchart from XeModex won't apply to your car.

If you really want to find out what's wrong with it get a Vida-Dice reading or buy one of your own.
