Working around subframe requires extra care. Practice safety.wrldky wrote:Can't I just support the engine below? Does anyone know what the shop manual says?
It is doable, but be very patient and careful, keep work area clear and well lit.
Wear protective eyeglass.
For assessing steps only:
I would want to raise the car on 4 jack-stand, secure it.
Remove protective plate, 7 screws.
Then place a 12" piece of 2 x 4 below transmission and support it with mobile-jack first. I use bottle-jack for better control of height.
Remove the two nuts #38 on the lower transmission torque mount bolts to the subframe.
Then completely remove the one engine pad bolt #39, which is accessible from the hole in subframe.
Measure the length of the bolt, and screw it back-in close to 10mm
Now raise the mobile-jack 10mm at a time, but not more than the total length of the bolt #39.
Goal of the above procedure it to determine the steps for replacing the front engine mount bracket.
