I use "Forever Black" that I found on IPD's website. That stuff is amazing. Clean the car, clean the trim with the including cleaner, and apply one coat, let air dry, apply another coat, let air dry, apply more if you feel like it. It's been a year I think, and it's still good to go.
:o The beater just won't die! So we're clawing our way back to Stage 0.

Well I quite like Back to Black. The good thing about it - it isn't expensive and if you don't like it YOU HAVEN'T PAINTED YOUR CAR. Which is hard to undo. LOL.

I don't think back to black sucks, and I don't think painting is stupid. If you want to spend 20 to 30 minutes every 3 to 5 months to keep it looking nice then use back to black or some product like it. If you want to paint it sure it might last longer, but it will chip and then you have to start over because nobody likes chipped paint!

It really is the worst, I've used all the available products.
Forever Black is probably the best but takes time.
Mequiars seems to be the best single step, black product

Painting them is the best for me, but unless it's done right you can mess that up too!
I find bumper paint to be the right color and texture, that's what it is made for, painting plastic bumpers (and trim) and of course takes more time (mostly to mask everything off properly).
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

i'll chime in with vinyl dye here. i don't know what plastic is used in the moldings, but vinyl dye works on plastics that aren't vinyl as well. it is a dye, not a paint: it will soak into the plastic and leave the surface texture intact. it won't chip off because it changes the color of the plastic itself (to a limited depth).

i've used it on an ABS computer case. the finish was fine, though my poor prep meant the case didn't look particularly good afterwards. the dye comes in an aerosol can and is particularly fumey, so you should have a well-ventilated place to let it do its thing.
