Hello - this is my first post so hopefully I follow all of the appropriate rules.
My question - how many replacement belts are on my car (2007 S40)? I took it in because it was making a squealing noise (sound of a lose belt) and was told that the tensioners were shot and needed to be replaced on the drive and serpentine belts. I thought this meant that they replaced the timing belt and the belt that runs everything else (AC, alternator, etc) - but the guy who runs the shop assured me that my car has three belts - two for the "accessories" if you will, and a third for the timing belt (engine). I know that they replaced two tensioners and two belts. Oh, and its still making the squealing noise :/
I can't find a good exploded diagram or listing of how many belts this car actually has, so any help would be very much appreciated.
What they replaced was the one belt you can see kind of directly above the AC condenser on the passenger side of the car. He told me the other belt was directly behind belt 1 towards the cabin, under the plastic casing of the spark plug cover. From what I am seeing, this seriously looks like where the timing belt is. I don't know enough to argue at this point - but I want to make sure I get my timing belt replaced soon (90k miles on the car) but I don't want to pay for it twice.
How many belts are on a Volvo S40 2007?

As a compromise you can use an 885mm belt for both positions. One position is officially 890mm and the other is smaller at around 865.

Thanks!
I originally took it in because there is a sound coming from under the hood. To me, it sounds like a loose belt. They told me both belt tensioners (driving the accessories) needed to be replaced, so they did that and replaced the belts at the same time. But when I picked the car up, the sound was still there.
They took the car back today and lifted it and listened for the sound - they think that it is coming from the engine itself and that I need to take it directly to Volvo. They don't think it's the timing belt - but I have a feeling it might be. Either the timing belt or the associated rollers/tensioners. Does anyone have any other ideas of what else can cause a "loose belt" kind of noise that is hard to distinguish the location of? They are going to lift it for me when I go to get it - so anything to look for is appreciated.

I've got to wonder if they ran the engine without the belts on the second inspection. You could be looking at an accessory associated item such as alternator or power steering pump or a/c pulley.
Keep us posted on the outcome.

Non-turbo s40/v50 have failures of the crankcase vent system that lets full vacuum be applied to crankcase and a range of noises occurs when air passes through oil seals. Pulling the engine oil dipstick when engine is idling stops the noise if it this cause.
They lifted the car for me and the sound was coming from the bottom side of the engine, drivers side and it sounded like it was IN the engine itself, not on thr side that sny of tgd belts were on. Independent shop recommended I take it to Volvo, so I did that yesterday.
Turns out it was just the PCV and it was covered under some sort of secret extended warranty (car has 90k on it ) and the fix was free. Awesome end to my three days in the auto shop, but I am a little annoyed that I paid to have belts and pulleys replaced that might not have really needed replacement. But, cars fixed, Volvo rep knew immediately what it was when I started up the car and pulled out the dipstick and it stopped.
Thanks everyone!

Depending on which seal is letting air pass into engine the noise could be in several and even multiple places.
Great that it was covered. I knew the crankcase breather assembly had a service campaign affecting some years but I was unsure if it would apply to your car.
