How long to stall after pulling fuse

Post by shoes_untied »

Hi,
I have pulled the fuel pump fuses out but can not seem to get my car to stall. How long would it normally take. I ran it for well over a half hour. I pulled the fuel pump relay and it stalled right a way but I'm not sure if that accomplishes the goal of emptying the fuel lines. The gas cap has been removed. Anybody have any ideas?

Stalling it would not clear the fuel lines, once pressure stops it will stall, but fuel will still be left in the lines.

Not sure what you goal is, but as long as there is fuel in the tank, there will be a siphon that will allow fuel to continue being pulled from the tank.

Pull the relay and/or fuse and start the car. It will run for a few seconds, then stall and die. You have relieved the fuel lines of pressure and should not be able to start the car again until you replace the fuse and/or relay.

If you're worried about siphon drawing fuel from the tank, you can physically disconnect the fuel line where it enters or exits the fuel pump and pinch it shut.

If the car stalls after pulling just the fuel pump relay, you should be good to go. However, do you have to start the car and let it die in order to relieve the lines of pressure.
