'93 940 loud injectors

Post by e777 »

Hello,

In December I fitted a rebuilt head to a newly acquired 93 940 wagon (purchased from the original owner with 215k miles).

The car runs beautifully. But, there is a persistent loud clicking coming from the injectors. I am 100% sure it is not the valves. The valves are within spec and I determined via the ol' mechanics stethoscope (a long screwdriver place to the ear) that the sound is definitely coming from the injectors.

Has anybody experienced this? What's the deal? :?

I used to think a strange ticking sound was coming from my lifters or injectors until I realized the sound stopped when the car went into third gear. It turns out second gear is a bit noisy in my 245.

Have you tried cleaning the injectors and replacing o-rings and caps?

Thanks for the info. Yes, that is something I should definitely do. Of course, I have had other Volvos whose engines and injection components were very worn and they never sounded like this. It almost sounds like a diesel engine at times. In any case, I will do the injector seals and caps and see if things change. Cheers.

No problem, I hope it helps. My local auto parts store had a kit with o-rings, cap, and all. The old caps were a bit stubborn, but came off with some prying.
