XC60 transmission fluid

Post by amauri7 »

Hello,
Just replaced our 2002 S60 2.4T with a new 2013 XC60 3.2 FWD and have been reading everything I can find about servicing the XC.
Can someone please confirm that Mobil 3309 ATF is the correct fluid for the XC60 tranny?

Thanks,
Amauri

A quick search at a MVS Sponsor says Mobil 3309 ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid, see Vehicle Fitment Guide.

While this is an old thread, thought I'd mention that according to what I've read in VIDA, beginning in 2011 the Gen II TF-80SC uses the lower viscosity JWS 3324-type fluid. Similar frictional properties to JWS 3309 for the "controlled slip" AW units. The new fluid follows the trend toward lower viscosity "fuel efficient" fluids like Dexron VI, Toyota WS, Honda DW-1 & Mercon LV.

Won't the new car warranty on your new 2013 XC60 require that servicing is only carried out by an authorised Volvo Service Centre?
Changing ATF or indeed almost anything yourself whilst under warranty will void it in the event you have any issues later on but still prior to the expiration of the warranty period.

Another name for the new fluid is AW-1.

In the US the warranty can't be impacted by proper servicing done and proved by documentation at other than a dealer.
There is no recommendation in Volvo service literature for the trans fluid to be serviced unless a warning message for fluid life or fluid overheat. If the vehicle is used commercially as a taxi or delivery vehicle or for frequent towing then it is listed to be done at 52500 miles which is outside of new car warranty period.

Thanks jimmy57 for clarifying that about warranty.
Good that DIY servicing is not totally discouraged in US and that by keeping all of your receipts / documentation one can save a few dollars.
Same cant be said here 'down under' unfortunately.
DIY whilst under warranty here, and your on your own.
