Re: Throttle body cleaning issues

Post by precopster »

The communication missing was NOT with throttle body.

It says "Communication with TCM control module" which is transmission control module.

Nothing I've read so far indicates that there is direct connection b/w CEM and throttle body.

The throttle reports to ECM (engine control module), however having said that the CEM can influence a lot of other systems in the vehicle

Hi to both of you :) :)
Following Mike's suggestion I did call Xemodex.
A technician called me back. I asked how I could have my CEM checked by them.
He said they don't charge for verification! But he wanted me to tell more about the symptoms. I did.
He said that I may not need a new CEM and suggested that using Vidas I should go to;
>Vehicle communication > CEM > Parameters > Immobilizer
He also said that by going trough the steps under "immobilizer" I should see what is wrong.
Here's it is
But I don't fully understand the responses on the right side box.
Do you guys know what I am supposed to understand?
What are the "keys" and "numbers" referring to?

Uncharted territory for me. Jimmy?

DO have at least 12V on the battery before testing so you don't misdiagnose.

There have been 4 keys programmed to the car including the dealer supplied ones upon delivery.

It has to be back to testing power input to the throttle body at the loom and of course checking earth integrity to throttle motor.

It starts with 12+ V then it goes down. Pretty quickly I must say.

Here are the wiring diag's of TB and pedal sensor.

The TB, or ETA, has a six wire connector going to ECM. Easy continuity check between the two. The pedal or device 7/51 also has a 6 wire conn going to ECM. You can see the batt voltage on pin 1, and ground on pin 3. So you'll have 2 checks: one for continuity (batt disconnected) and one for volts (batt connected) connector plugged in, needle in the back of conn, key on 2.
You should be able to get a pretty good idea of what's going on after these tests. Good luck!

Thanks draser
This afternoon I went trough my copy of "electrical volvo 2002_S60_S80.pdf" and printed something to work with. Yours seems different.
Can you have a look at mine and tell me why ETM cables don't end up same place as yours?
Maybe I got the wrong set.
I'm always scared of breaking more things when trying to repair something.

That's because you DON'T have an ETM, which was the pre '02 system made by Magnetti Marelli. You have an ETA made by Bosch

Thank you Mike for the clarification.
I would have been lost in the wrong forest.
